    Yep, Tim’s right. I called the hotel direct and got an extra day Monday nite. See you there!!

    The conference rate of $129/ night at the hotel does not begin until Thursday, the 18th. We made our flight for Wednesday, the 17th, because we thought some activities were beginning on Thursday at noon. The hotel said to book online that additional night, but it’s $249. Is there any way around this that you are aware of?

      Yes – absolutely – you do not have to pay $249 for ‘shoulder dates’. Here is the explanation:

      HOTELS IN GENERAL: Most hotel ‘Group Reservation Links (whether for RI or other events) only allow you to reserve rooms at the special rate for the nights that were ‘blocked’ or guaranteed in the contract. Even though ‘1 day before and 1 day after’ are generally included in the contract, they rarely will put these ‘shoulder dates’ into the automated reservation system.

      In most cases, you can simply call the hotel directly and you can get a night before or after the ‘blocked dates’ at the same rate.

      IN THIS CASE: I had it added into the contract that the ‘special RI rate’ will be honored 2 days before and 2 days after (because I knew a lot would arrive before or stay over after).

      So just call the hotel direct at 704-372-7550 and ask them to add the date(s) you need at the same ‘RI’ rate (within the 2 day before or after window). If that does not work, it will simply be that the Sales Dept did not inform the Front Desk – just let me know and I will handle it.
